One of the most celebrated seasons of love is Valentine's Day. You wouldn't believe the mount of raw materials are used for people all over the world to say "I LUV U" for just one day!
Think about all the candy, all the roses, the
babie's breath accent flowers, the cards, the steaks, the wine, and all the goods tht go into producing these wonderful expressions. It's big business for sure.
The question is....is it worth it???
Most would say yes. But think on this....how many who spend big bucks to say I love are actually telling the truth?
You know, in the Bible, there are at least 4 kinds of love:
Storge – empathy bond. Philios – friend bond. Eros – romantic love. Agape – unconditional "God" love.
How do you know which one you are truly receiving, especially in a season where it's just the thing to do?
The truth is, you can't really tell from a Valentine's Day gift which love is being displayed. It could be real, or it could be just the hype of the season. So how do you know???
According to the Bible, you will know not by what the card says, but what the life sacrifices.
1 John 3:16...By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers.
That is Agape! Jesus gave his life for those he came be be in relationship with. That is what the other three stand on. If they don't. Then it isn't safe love.
In other words, if it's more sexual than sacrificial....run for you life.
If it acts like a friend, but claims to be romantic....don't get played!!
If it claims to be empathetic, but includes no comfort, dont trust it, it's only sympathetic.
Are you getting it???
The end is this, thank God for the ability to express love, but you are always safer measuring human claims of love by biblical standards.
By this, you will know if the gift is really an expression of something that's true.
1 Corinthians 13:4-8...Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8 Love never fails
