Does Faith and Fun Mix?

Updated: Aug 13, 2018

The Question: "This year I'll be a freshman. So is there any advice for keeping your faith while having fun as a 9th grader while not falling into the flesh??"

Our Answer: Can you believe that you have already answered your own question? Think about it...the way to keep your faith and not fall into the flesh is to...."keep YOUR faith."

That's right, faith is something you must keep. When???? Whenever the opportunity arises to compromise what you believe. So the question is..."What do you believe???"

Do you believe going to parties with secular music; having friends that don't confess to be Christians; participating on drill or dance teams that dance provocative; and of course, gettin' LIT when the teacher leaves the classroom are all fun and as innocent as they seem? If you do, then you probably won't enjoy being a Christian, because part of our walk with God is that our lifestyle is to always reflect a relationship with Him. "for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy." 1 Peter 1:16.

But if you believe that being close to Jesus is awesome and full of promise, then you will do everything you can to protect your relationship with him, even if it means changing your perspective on what fun is. Last time I checked, Christians can go to movies, football games, out to eat, and more, and have fun even without cursing, fighting, or even talking about someone behind their back. Plus, if you believe that your life is also a witness to others ,then you will want to present yourself in a way that would encourage someone else to seek your help when they need to know something about your God.

So here's our BIG advice...Enjoy God first, and everything else will take care of itself. Live for God next, and the kind of friends you have been searching for will eventually find you.

God's Answer: Psalm 37:4...Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

Much Luv in Christ
